The face of the Beloved

The face of the Beloved is inside my heart
It comes into being as I long for it
And it goes on living there as long as I keep longing
Just longing … nothing more

It is beyond every beauty
It is beyond every word of beauty
It is beyond poetry
It is beyond every-thing

The face of the Beloved is the face of longing
Longing with love, opening the heart
Longing, loving without taking
The longing and the loving with open heart

An open heart retaining nothing
Receiving and enjoying
The flight of the birds over the fields
The strength and warmth of the tree

The warm hug of the sunbeams
The brightness of the moon
The clouds telling stories
The raindrops on my face

The silent encounter with the eyes of a trusted friend
But also the smile of a stranger
Brightening up your day
Even if this stranger is never to be met again

Giving your smile to a stranger
A look into his eyes
A brief encounter only to happen once
It makes me wonder …

The face of the Beloved lives inside my heart
It comes into existence as I long for it
And it goes on living there as long as I keep longing
Just longing … nothing more

The longing of the lover, burning since the beginning of time
The hope for this encounter
An encounter inside my heart
An encounter with my own love

The face of the Beloved …
Is the face of my own love
A love with no other purpose
Than to awaken and become aware of itself

Love for the purpose of love
For that’s what makes life truly alive
Unpersonal but so very personal
For it is the deepest core of who I am

The face of the Beloved lives inside my heart
It is of a beauty beyond words
It is the true face of life
The true brightness of life

Eyes are incapable of seeing it
For it’s pure brightness is too strong
But it can be seen in everything
Because it shines through everything

All we have to do
Is open our heart
For the longing of love
Making our heart alive

For the brightness outside
Is our own heart, so brightly alive
Being reflected outside of us
shining within and through everything

Everything is a mirror of ourself
Even the face of the Beloved …
